Two Notts branch walks this week:

 

Tuesday 4 July – Field trip, Toton Sidings (Nottinghamshire)

Joint meeting with Long Eaton Natural History Society

Meet at the Banks Road Open Space car park (grid ref SK 494345) at 10am for
a walk around the Toton Fields Local NR and Toton Sidings for an approx. 2
to 3 hour walk. This area is full of wildflowers that attract a wide range
of butterflies including Marbled White.

Banks Road turns off Stapleford Lane, Toton (B6003), at the traffic
lights. Towards the end of Banks Road there is a side street called
Chester Green and this leads to the free car park at the Toton Greenwood
Community Centre (no facilities).

 

Sunday 9 July – Field trip, Borders Wood, Owthorpe (Nottinghamshire)

10.30 a.m. start

A circular walk of approximately 2 miles using public footpaths and
bridleways through Borders Wood. There is one steep climb and one steep
descent.

Target Species: Silver Washed Fritillary and other woodland species and
possibly Purple Emperor.

Meet at SK669327
Parking on nearby grass verges. Please do not park at the entrances to the
two bridleways at this location as these are used as farm access
roads.Please note that this walk passes a location used for Sporting
Shooting so there may be noise of gunfire during part of the walk.
