Nottinghamshire Flutterings on 13th September 2016.

Paul Pearson commented a few days ago “I feel almost as if this shortfall we’re seeing is primarily affecting *garden* species, such as Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell, Comma. As soon as I get out into “countryside proper”, there doesn’t seem to be anything like such a noticeable fall-off in the amount of butterflies I’m seeing. Odd.W

I agreed with Paul at the time but there seems to be a mini-emergence of Small Tortoiseshell, Comma and Small White in our gardens over the last couple of days.

Martyn Anderson is still “getting good sightings in my garden, centered on one particular buddleia (dark red) still in full bloom.”

And Brian Johnson has been keeping “an eye on my garden buddleias over the past week. It was pleasing to see that the recent good weather has made the garden butterflies more active with 6x ST, 2x PL and 3x RA on my
buddleia today. Perhaps with the continued good spell we may have a sighting of the CY”

Martyn Anderson was the last to record a Clouded Yellow, that was way back on 9th June!

Toni Lachetta, aka Mr Sandybanks LNR, is still getting records “mainly speckled woods and occasionally a small copper, usually feeding on some ragwort. Last Wednesday was a bit of a freak. I had just spotted a second SC on some ragwort when suddenly a second joined it and third sped past. It may be that there are more than are seen hiding in the long grass. Final sighting was a common blue. Just as it flew away a speckled wood came rushing past closely pursued by another CB.”

Thanks to all.
