Nottinghamshire Flutterings on 4th September 2016. More warm weather expected

Nottinghamshire Flutterings on 4th September 2016.

More warm weather expected so maybe chance for Clouded Yellow yet.

Since 30th August:

Paul Goodwin on the Radcliffe Wood transect noted ‘A few speckled woods around but not spectacular numbers, nice to see singletons of Common Blue, Small Copper, Brimstone and Small Tortoiseshell.’

Laurence Archibald talks about Compton Acres
I guess Compton Acres has been like most places this year, judging by some of your correspondents’ notes.
Spring up to end May was a washout with the only saving grace being Orange Tips at about normal numbers.
June and July were, overall, good – particularly Skippers (although they disappeared last week of July), a Green-veined White site record count and most of the Browns at expected levels (overall Ringlet counts for the 2 months were highest recorded). On the down side, numbers of Blues were poor as were those of Small Heath.
August has been weird! Like everywhere else it seems, the Buddleia have been deserted and no Small Coppers so far. However, Common Blues were out in force (until NWT decided to mow the meadow at Wilford Clay Pits that were, up to then, CB Central) and the number of Browns has been respectable – particularly Speckled Wood with a record count yesterday.
Still time for things to improve, hopefully.
