Six of the Best.

Update Number 6

The recent increase in daytime temperatures, coupled with lengthy spells of long-awaited sunshine meant that many of you were lucky enough to record your first butterfly sighting of the year. Six different species were recorded over the past week or so, including the first sightings of the Small White (species number 6 for the year so far). I will endeavour to list the reported sightings in chronological order for each species and will show the date, recorder and location alongside each one.

4 – Red Admiral – Sapcote Garden Centre – Richard Jeffery – 25 March

5 – Comma – various – various – 25 March

6 – Small White – various – various – 02 April

 

As temperatures continue to rise and, hopefully, our skies are graced with more sunshine hours, I expect greater numbers of the above species to appear in gardens and the open countryside. I would also anticipate the first sightings of Large White, Green-veined White, Orange Tip and Holly Blue to be imminent. Please be on the lookout for these species and let me know when and where you see them.
